Re: once again...the correct schematic... final review

Hi Scot,

With the Safety Gap in parallel with the caps (that in turn are in parallel with the PIG), aren't you worred about exceeding the max current rating of the cap if the safety fires? There is nothing (like the TC primary inductance) to limit the current in this case. I believe you could damage your caps in this configuration as well as let the RF across the cap be transformed to the PIG primary and cause a larger RFI problem.

Okay Chip...

I took a good look at your schematics for this
version and found everything to be in order (
as far as the welder primary winding being less
in winds as compared to the secondary
winding that can be dismissed at least you
have the correct idea that you are using the
primary side of the welder as ballast input)

as far as having the cap in series with the coil
primary and the rotary spark gap in paralell with
the coil primary ( in your present schematics) I
prefer to run mine in the opposite
configuration.... my rotory spark gap is in
series with the coil primary and the cap is in
paralell with the coil primary ( and transformer
outputs) my safety gap is also in paralell with the cap and transformer

this way the cap charges direct and not thru the
coil primary and any overvoltage gets dumped into
the safety gap ( but when it does its loud) ...
