Hi Scott,

Interesting question. I'm not a MOT user (built a 2 MOT tranny but 
never a big one). The back of my brain was always kind of wondering 
"how does one really know" with a shorted MOT secondary as a ballast. 
Well, the obvious approach is to ask how much power you are running 
with the ballast? You could always go to a welder, but maybe also you 
could parallel a couple MOT's configured for ballasting to double the 
current. Just off the whim thought (take it with a grain of 
salt).  It will be interesting for me to see what others say and have done.
