Re: Wire Table

Most small rural libraries have a program called "inter-library loan". Most can get almost any book for you with this computer/internet operated program. Usually one may keep the book for a few weeks to 30 days which allows one time to make some photocopies of the charts.

Another very interesting book you might wish to order up is C.L. Stong's, "Scientific American Book of Projects for the Amateur Scientist". It covers a lot of ground on VDGRFs, high vacuum, high voltage, X-rays, and a host of other interesting projects for the amateur scientist. Unfortunately, no Tesla coils were covered. You can usually just order it up over the phone if you have a local library card.

Most all of the ARRL Radio Amateur's Handbooks carry wire charts in the rear of the book. For Tesla coil duty, I recommend the double insulated magnet wire which is usually specified as 150 or 200 degree C. wire. It has heavier insulation and helps prevent the nasty RF "creepage" breakdown that can plague high frequency coils.

Hi Dr. Resonance and Bart,

One of the disadvantages living in a rural area and near small towns are no libraries of any size and 50 miles to get there! They do not have any handbooks and very little technical references.

I have one 1949 handbook and it has some info but limited.

I will keep looking and when I find some good info, I will let you all know!

Thanks to all for the help and for the varnished wire table that was sent to me!

Frank

Hi Frank,

I have nothing of that sort, but DC is correct, it can probably be tracked down. We seem not to have an electronic file for a chart of that type. The reason I'm replying here is that if you track down a chart and can get it into some electronic format, there are probably many of us who would also like to get our eyes on it.

Take care,
Bart

Your local library. ARRL Radio Amateur's Handbook. Charts are included for EMW in most every book no matter what the year. Older issues have the cotton covered wire specs.

Hi All,
Does anyone have a source for wire tables that list the dia's of SCC, DCC, bare and enameled wires? They need to give the OD's for the wire including the covering or varnish as the OD.s are different for the same size wire dependent on the covering.
I have searched on the web and my books and no luck so far.
