How did you place the welder in the circuit? Did you have the welder
secondary output shorted together? Might want to look and make sure the
welder is in series with one leg of your low voltage side of the pig. This
practice is used throughout the world of electricity ( it's not like it's
just some ham fisted idea that some crackpot dreamed up in his basement).
I wouldn't recommend playing around with this kind of thing until you've
verified that both your household system and your ballast are up to snuff.
Don't want to be reading about any homeless or dead coilers anytime soon.
