[TCML] RE: Geissler tube or lighting effects



I'm not sure it qualifies as a Geissler tube, but I recently filled a thin polyethylene tube (imagine a plastic baggie 1.5" wide by something like 12 FEET long) with argon from a welding cylinder.  The argon surface-tracked nicely over the entire length.  The 12 foot length was powered by a fairly beefy SSTC, but I've also lit up at least a 3 foot length with my bug zapper xfmr powered coil.  Of course the plastic rapidly melted, but it highlights the fact that exotic mixtures, gas purity, low pressures, vacuum pumps, etc, are not strictly needed.  Your glass tube should work much better!
