What kind of vacuum gap? The tiny ones used for overvoltage protection, e.g. from Philips or Victoreen? Or a big one like the ones from Perkin Elmer (formerly EG&G)?
Thermal ammeter.. like the kind used for RF current measurement? You might try radio surplus places like Fair Radio Sales (Lima, OH)..
