    Because the inventory on the shelves of the people  you're buying wire 
from was purchased at high prices.
    
    Until they sell the wire they paid a lot for, and  replace it with wire 
they bought for cheap, they aren't going to drop their  prices. Otherwise, they 
would be losing money (buy high sell low!). 
 
    Of course, if they don't lower their prices enough  to make sales, 
they'll be out of business with an inventory that's worth a  lot less than what they 
paid for it.
 
    FWIW, a lot of people are still waiting for  ammunition prices to come 
down. Unfortunately, the price of copper is just one  factor out of about 20 
that are keeping the prices high. So count your blessings  that you only want 
some cheap wire!
