Re: [TCML] live pigs on the ground

I'd hate to be anywhere near them if one of the fuses blew, they're a little too low to the ground for me. I've heard them blow a couple/few times, and they're significantly loud, probably a bit dangerous from the potential shrapnel, too. Now that I think of it, blown fuses on mains seem to follow me from job to job. I'm NOT working on my coils at work, really! :) Scavenging parts, maybe.

Neal.

Hi Dave,

After reviewing these images a bit closer I see that you
are correct and that I was initially mistaken about the
surface that these pigs were sitting on. It had appeared
to me that these pigs were sitting on bare ground but a
closer examination of the thrid of the four images clear-
ly does show a narrow concrete slab peaking out from
the dead grass and weeds. I guess the foilage is dead
because of the groundskeeper that Mark advised to
be careful about spraying around this installation ;^)

Hi Mark

This appears on surface "over-the-top" but is actually ok. Medium voltage area is behind a fence that is locked and restricted to "qualified personnel"
and the 2.4kV is appropriately marked HV.

"I" would not have direct set the pole pigs on a concrete pad as they are,
I would of supported them above the concrete (pulstren fiberglass
platform, salt treated timbers) to prevent rusting out bottom of oil
container (by trapping water directly under bottom of pig can).

Grounding of the transformers against lightning and ground rise with
a loss of ground on building (load) side is another area of concern in an
installation like this.

The advice to the unsuspecting grounds person is well advised... ;^D

Curious, what is utilization low voltage, and is it a grounded wye or delta
connection?

Hello all,

I found these pigs in service at a building where I was doing chiller repairs.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? It is a first for me.
