Peter,I don`t have the original data sheets for the old types, but the allowable current is higher when the pulses get shorter, so it seems to me, that higher frequency should be an asset. The sidac is only passing current during the time it takes to turn the IGBT on, usually around 150 - 200nS, in the case of a small coil, with a smaller IGBT and correspondingly small bate ballast capacitor, even shorter.
