Re: [TCML] 5kv plane gap size

Jim,

I said 50 mils, not 50mm. 50 mils is equal to 0.05 inch (50 thousandths) which is 1270 microns or 1.27mm.

Take care,
Bart

Bart,
Thanks much for a starting range. I have my feeler gauge (50mm) in hand and
will document the resulting discharge voltage @ 800ft.

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure how elevation will vary this value, but breakdown should be right at 50mils (pretty narrow). But depending on the surface of the dowels, elevation, pressure, etc.. the gap setting may need to be slightly larger a few mils to achieve a 5kv breakdown.

Hi List,

Does anyone know the DC gap breakdown size for 5KV via large, flat dowels
at
~800ft-1000ft elevation is? Most of what I find on the Inet are for higher
voltages.

I may have to trigger this, but; I am trying to keep it simple.

Thanks much,
