[TCML] Re: Sculpture with Tesla coils

Dear Tesla coilers —
The conversation here both on an off line
has been extremely valuable. I discovered today that I had missed a
couple of issues which ended up in my spam folder. I will reply to your
comments following
my summary.
The first lesson I have learned is... I am way out of my league!
When I was invited to submit a proposal to the park they said to think big.
There is an art installation I love by Walter De Maria called Lightning Field in Western New Mexico.
You can see it here:
http://www.diaart.org/sites/main/lightningfield
I started my process by researching the physics of lightning.
Given the size of the park I decided to try and scale down to a Tesla coil... This is what brought me here.
Unfortunately
the liability factors would absolutely ensure having my grant proposal
rejected. The only way around it would be to hire a licenced and bonded
firm to build the TC's. The budget for this work is no where near what
is needed to make this happen.
The option I am persuing now will keep all of the elements as is accept there will have to be an alternate interior to the Glass House. I am considering plasma globes or Jacobs ladders.
I
am researching the possibility of hosting an event over a weekend at
the park where the TC's could be set up by inviting a professional
organization to do a demonstration in the house and allow me to film
it.
Then the park can have a beautiful Disney display, and I can see my dream come to life.
In the mean time, on my own... I am begining the process of making a small scale version of the Glass House with coils for my own creative archives. Placed appropriately away from pulic theme parks!!

As for the comments I missed:
Jim Mora —
I adore the idea that the group would be interested in collaborating. There is certainly a very interesting crowd here.
Greg Leyh —
The photo is amazing... another confirmation of how far out of my league I am!!
Did I mention I had a lot to learn :-)
Dex Dexter —
Never discouraged... On rare occasion realistic!!
Peter Terren —
Thanks...
You are the voice of reason... Nice web page. Write to me off line if
you want and let me know where you are located. A musician friend of
mine will be on tour in Australia in February. It would be cool if he
could see some of your work.
"Jimilux" —
Your analysis of the usefulness of the Faraday cage makes perfect sense - I was wondering.

If
there are any other comments I missed, my appologies. I will be sure to
update you all in the future as to how this all turns out. In the mean
time, I will likely be fishing for advice as I begin building myself a
couple of small TC's.

Kind regards,
Mary Jane Mansfield
