Motor wire is magnet wire and it "is" insulated with a thin coating of tough abrasion resistant poly's (comes in clear, amber, red, green, etc.. colors). Magnet wire is commonly used in motors, transformers (and TC's) for tightly wound turns to reduce the number of turns within an area needed to achieve a desired inductance.

As others have said, just rewind the overlap and tape the ends to hold it in place.
