Re: [TCML] SSTC PlasmaSonic Board HELP!!!

Andrew -

All the documentation for the Plasmasonic II board assembly can be found on Dan McCauley's website at:
http://easternvoltageresearch.com/index.htm
This includes the schematic, Parts List, and an Instruction Manual that covers many aspects of assembly and testing, but does not provide a detailed analysis of circuit operation.

If you already have a thorough understand of solid-state electronics, and you think you are ready to build and tune a solid-state Tesla coil based on this board assembly, simply looking at the schematic will answer many of your questions. If you have no familiarity with solid-state oscillators, pulse-width modulation, gate drive transformers and their drivers, full-bridge MOSFET power switches, etc. then you are NOT ready to try to build a Tesla coil utilizing this board. No brief summary of "quick basics" will be of any use to you.

There is also a lot of information on building, debugging and tuning the Plasmasonic II board assembly on the 4HV.org website on the Tesla coil forum under the "Plasmasonic II build" thread. There ARE a few discrepancies in the Plasmasonic II documentation, and I think they are all identified in this thread.

However, to have any chance of getting a solid-state Tesla coil up and running you first really have to get a fundamental understanding of the basic operation of solid-state Tesla coils, and the functions of the various parts of the circuit. Simply searching the web for "solid-state Tesla coil" will provide a lot of reading material. If you are still confused by what you read, you will need to go back and educate yourself on basic circuit theory, understand the operation of all the solid-state devices used on the Plasmasonic board, learn how to set up and use a two-channel oscilloscope, etc.

If what you read on-line about SSTC's, or the assistance you get from the TCML is "way overly complicated", then the root of the problem is likely your lack of knowledge of basic electronics.

A solid-state Tesla coil based on the Plasmasonic II board is FAR more complex than any spark-gap Tesla coil, and you will need MUCH better understanding of electronic circuit theory to set up and tune a Plasmasonic II coil.

Subject: [TCML] SSTC PlasmaSonic Board HELP!!!

With much thanks to Rick Wall, I have acquired a PlasmaSonic SSTC board by Daniel McCauley date 06/13/2003 SC2033 REV. (THANK YOU RICK!!!) Will this work to build a DRSSTC because the board just says SSTC? Does anyone have any written information on this board. A Schematic? Anything? I'm not planning on doing anything with this board for quite awhile since I still dont fully understand the concepts.

Can someone PLEASE tell me the quick basics of what the GENERAL components are. What I mean is, dont describe like the capacitors and transistors etc. What I need is, are there three circuits? Two circuits? One circuit? Is this the only board I need, or is this just a driver circuit that will control a high voltage circuit? Whats the inverter, Gate driver, and, etc. Someone please provide some insight. I been trying to find basic help online and on the list several times and every reply I get is still way overly complicated. Need basics. I'm a veteran of SGTC, but completely new to SSTC's and DRSSTC's.

Thanks,
Andrew
