Re: [TCML] Re: Capacitor advice

For a 12/30 NST you want about 9-10 nF max with a static gap, so use fewer plates (try about 9.) Did you acquire a blower fan for your spark gap? You'll need a small top load, like a 3 cm by 15 cm, and then it should tune at about turn 15 on the primary assuming you reduced to 9 nF (try both 8 and 9 plates, see what works better for you.) For greater portability at the expense of spark length and more primary tubing you could use like 2 or 3 plates, but you will need about a 30 turn primary to pull this off. Put it together fire it up, let us know what happens.

hi.
my sec is about 1700 turns . 11 cm in diameter .
pri is 1 to 17 .
cap is 31 (30*30 cm) glasses with 30 (25*25cm) aluminum foils between 'em .
multimeter says 38.6 nF .
NST is 12kV @30 mA.
stationary gap with 1 or 2 mm width .
