The 2 diodes are in parallel ie anode to anode across any opposite pair of 
commutator segments.

I see it's operation as a combination of traditional motor action, plus the 
winding 

with the diode stays permanently magnetised by rectifying the 
commutator voltage and possibly induction from the stator.

in which direction the diodes have to be soldered? This is not visible on your 
photos. Also what exactly is happening in the rotor when the 2 diodes are 
soldered?
