RE: [TCML] Automobile mounted Tesla coil

Thanks Hank. Yep I have to give Finn the credit for the configuration.
It just felt like the right design for this project.
And thanks for the feedback on the photography. It is my other passion.
:)

Wow, awesome job. Looks a lot like one of Finn's coils he made a couple
of years ago. Looks really cool on the old farm truck! BTW, your
photography is out of sight! I especially like some of the B&W photos,
nice.

Well the Tesla coil twin I've been working on for the past several
months is finally complete.
It is mounted on the flatbed of a Frankenstein themed "rat rod". It was
shown to the public for the first time on Friday and was quite a hit.
A photo of it can be seen on my photo portfolio here:
www.flickriver.com/photos/klasdja
It's a few photos down from the top of the page.
There are also some videos of it on my youtube page.
www.youtube.com/user/moneraths

It is a v'ed twin coil with separate primary circuits. The NSTs are
12/60s. The caps are Maxwell .03 30kv pulse caps..2 per circuit in
series. The secondaries are interesting in that the owner choose to have
them fiberglass coated, which made for an extremely rugged coil. The
coating is about 1/8" thick, so the coils are really tolerant to
scratches and bumps.
The bottom of the secondaries are grounded to one another, and also
grounded to the frame of the truck. The frame of the truck is connected
to earth ground via heavy chain.
The coils are still dependent on mains power for the time being, but the
rig will be self powered soon via 2 1500 watt dc to ac converters
running off of deep-cycle batteries.
Note that the coil has not been tuned for optimum performance as of yet.
We found a tap point that the owner found satisfactory and we left it
there for now.
The streamers connect and there is no breakout where there shouldn't be,
making the coil fairly safe for onlookers within a fairly tight radius
of the vehicle.
Just thought I'd share. These have brought me a fair amount of fame and
future potential business in the local area.
Woo-hoo!
