Lexan is a brand name for a type of polycarbonate sheet.


    Common Acrylic Brands
Acrylite, Altuglas, Chemcast, Lucite, Optix, Perspex, Plexiglas, Repsol, Setacryl 

    Common Polycarbonate Brands
Barlo, Calibre, Hyzod, Lexan, Markrolon, Palsun, Sustanat, Tecanat, Tristar
As far as I remember, Chris mentioned they used Acrylic in the MMC. Polycarbonate is nasty stuff when it burns.. Acrylic on the other hand is much safer to deal with.. I still wouldn't breath in the vapors of acrylic, but the poisonous vapors are one of the reasons why most places won't laser cut polycarbonate (it also doesn't laser cut very well)

Hi Chris,

Sad to here of the fire and damage :(

An idea is to get those fire alarms that have alarm level relay
contacts.  When the smoke detector goes off, the contacts close and a
big contactor for the building's power drops the whole electricity
show out.  That probably would have easily saved the farm in this
case.  The system cost is fairly tiny.

Try not to use Lexan for anything.  It burns like napalm.  I know
everyone loves it, but in a fire you might as well use diesel fuel...

Anyway, have fun with your rebuilding project!
