Re: [TCML] Grounding for HF VTTCs?

Hi Wil,

I have built this circuit some years ago with a TB5/2500 triode @ 6kV plate voltage. There is no need of grounding the coil. I achived 40cm long HF flames easily with a proper tuned coil. By the way I did some other modifications to this circuit, but have forgotten them. I remember, that some capacitors are not really needed. Later I wanted to try even a SRS302 tube with 10kV plate voltage, but than I was afraid of x-ray production and stopped further experiments. The circuit is a hartley oscillator which is highly efficient and it's even possible, to audio modulate such big flames, when using a tetrode instead of a triode.

Here it is in operation:

And here with a red coloured flame using some strontium nitrate:

Dear Group,
I built a HF VTTC based on this circuit:
http://4hv.org/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?126638.0

I added a charging reactor in between the hv out from the doubler and the
resonator. It smooths the output and reduces the noise considerably. I
was wondering is there is a way to ground the low voltage side of the coil?
I was hoping grounding the coil would improve performance and reduce EMI.

I am tempted to use a vacuum capacitor between the bottom of the coil and
rf ground. Will this work or is there another circuit that will allow me to
ground the coil I can use?

You can see my setup here: http://youtu.be/4PvLM8yMucI

Cheers!
-Wil
