Don't worry about being inexperienced - we all have to start somewhere.

The design is very straightforward so if you start with one of the online
calculators, you will have a significantly greater chance of success on your
first coil than if you just start throwing stuff together. Be sure to plan
to use either a beer bottle/salt water capacitor or an MMC. There are some
other kinds of capacitors that absolutely will not work even though they
seem to have the correct capacitance and voltage ratings. Search the
archives for MMC
