I think he is wondering about the fact, that there is no capacitor, just a 
spark gap and primary coil.
The explanation is very simple: Although there is no visible capacitor, 
there is always some picofarads of capacitance (wires, spark gap itself...) 
so it is a resonant circuit which is enough to light up the lamp.
