Re: [TCML] Death Ray?

Tesla did his best work at the beginning:

1. Development of the AC power distribution system (transformers, multi-phase power, AC generators)
2. Invention of the AC induction motor
3. Wireless radio technology development

These are monumental achievements themselves and shape our modern world. Most of what he did after that was basically crackpot stuff. Any of those many crazy "theories" you hear about or read are nonsense. Any decent electrical engineer can determine that.

Cars indeed do act like Faraday cages.

Steve,

Thanks for telling what happened.
I don’t live in the US and I could not watch it. I cannot even watch Science Channel where I live. I watched parts of episodes on other platforms.

I never realized the fact about the Faraday Case with airplanes. This also means that cars act like Faraday Cages?

Never heard about the earthquake machines theory surrounding Tesla btw. One of the most laughable ones that I heard from someone is that Tesla was assasinated by personell of Hitler. Arguing with a theorist is always hard since any argument braught up against them is considered ‘brainwashing’ of the media by them.

Altough I diverge from what this list is usefull for (sorry), is there even a theory surrounding him that is truthful or had a grain of truth? I don’t see the point of spreading lies about Tesla. It only undermines Tesla in public eyes while he was so important for our world.

Sincerely, Yesn

> I finally watched the last episode on-line. Thanks for posting the link. I skipped the gibberish and went to the final 15 minutes. I am not convinced that the streamer actually destroyed the drone. It looks to me like the obvious flash-powder is what actually destroyed it. The ramblings of these people about this being a viable weapon are laughable. If the range is no more than 10 feet something MIGHT happen. Here are some of the many reasons this is not a viable weapon. 1. You can't direct a streamer. 2. The range is severely limited. 3. Modern planes act like a Faraday cage. Number 3 is probably the biggest. Planes get struck by lightning all the time and nothing happens because they act like a Faraday cage and are not grounded. A lightning bolt has orders of magnitude more energy in it than the largest tesla coil and capacitor bank ever will. So even if you could steer the streamer and make the range sufficiently large and deliver a large pulse of energy, it would not do anything to a modern plane. I have o say that the tesla coil and capacitor bank were impressive to watch. Does anyone know how he routed the 100K joules from the capacitor bank through the secondary? I would think that the secondary wire would have to be huge to handle the thousands of amps of peak current when fired. If the secondary wire is a very large gauge, then it seems like you couldn't get many turns on the secondary. I wish they would have provided some more detail about how this was actually built. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Daniel Kunkel" To: "Tesla Coil Mailing List" Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2018 11:18:00 PM Subject: Re: [TCML] Death Ray? You can watch the last episode for free online. It shows the final form of the "Death Ray" destroying a couple of drones. https://www.sciencechannel.com/tv-shows/teslas-death-ray-a-murder-declassified-on-science/full-episodes/fbis-secret-scheme I know we all have our problems with the show's content and in general how modern day reality TV portrays/ruins topics we are passionate about, but let's face it, these days we don't have any Tesla based content to choose from on TV. ~Dan Kansas City area On Sat, Feb 24, 2018, 1:20 PM Teslalabor wrote: > Same here.
