The short answer is: all the new kids are on facebook, whatsapp, instagram etc.
The problem: those are closed networks which can not be found by search engines.

Mailing lists will also have problems attracting new users as its not intuitive, not easy to share media, connect in groups etc.

I wrote a small piece about these issues when I launched www.highvoltageforum.net to give a new alternative to older sites. You can read it here: https://highvoltageforum.net/index.php?topic=73.0

But it did not really change anything, there is still some amazing coil builders that just stays in the facebook groups and like to just post random pictures, videos and questions instead of having a long thread with all information in one place. All they ever wrote is lost forever for anyone not in that group.

Those facebook groups are much more active than here, but it is also a general trend of young engineers today are not nescasarily interested in electronics as a hobby, it has just become a work.
