Tesla Coil challenge!
1) The next time you energize your Tesla Coil, take a video showing the length of sustained brush discharge from the top electrode or ring.
2) Then, increase the size of the top ring until the brush discharge is just suppressed.
3) Next, add a surface defect like a bolt or wire that protrudes from the point of largest radius of the ring. Video the new length of the brush discharge.
You may be surprised that your discharge is now 50% longer!
