Re: [TCML] sync motor

I want to remind you that there was found a method (by Cliff Penfold when I remember correctly?) for turning any simple motor with commutator into a sync motor by soldering diodes between elements of the commutator. I tested this several years ago and it worked great.

My method was similar but a little riskier. I timed it with the 4 flying electrodes in place. I used one of those U-shaped optical transmitter/receivers that allows the tungsten electrode to pass through it. The clearances are tight.

I have two holes in the rotor (for 120 bps). On one side of the spinning
rotor I point a sk2035a photo transistor through the hole on the rotor and
on the other side the detector. When it spins sends a pulse to the scope
which is triggering on line to a old transformer the other channel has the
rotor pulse. Overlap the two channels and align. Works very well and is fun.
Later on.

Shuan yes it is a hard thing now to find. Can give problems finding the
sweet spot. My comment had fun with strobe light & the SRSG with the sweet
spot.

I have read the archives for days looking for leads on cheep sync motors,
always day or several years too late to get in on the action. I have been
looking at the oriental motors that are synchronous but don't lock at the
same phase each time, so I would have to use a 1800 rpm with 4 contacts
for
120 bpm so where ever it locked would be in sync, assuming 90 degree
locks.

I have purchased from ebay, 2 of the teletype motors and they work very
well, but the ones that are there now, are way too pricey.

Anyone have any to sell, or a tip on where to get one. I followed Dr
Resonants leads on motors he talked about, but just another dead end. I
don't really want to machine one up, but I guess that is a option.

             Thanks all.
