crappy coil update
hey coilers
a week ago i decided that i was gonna make a tesla coil after 2 straight
months of looking at coils everynight on the internet. Working with lil
resources, tools, and experience i whooped out a crappy piece of crap.
Somethin so bad that even N tesla himself would slap me for it if he was
alive. I used an MOT with an unmatched cap for the primary. I made a coil
that was way out of the L/D ratio(9:1). I got no spark and came real close
to killing myself. Then my friend told me about this list since no one in
this area (yuba city, ca) knew anything about tesla coils. I recieved
several responses in the next two days. Many of you told about my cap
straight off, and my secondaris abnormal size. A week later, today, i made a
new secondary (12 by 3.5, 26 awg) and used a flyback to power a 2 liter salt
water bottle cap. Because it is a flyback, its rating is way below a decent
supply but i was able to get 6 inch sparks to my finger very easily by using
some old metal bowls as toploads. Anyways i wanted to take the time and
thank all the members of the tesla mailing list who read and responded to my
e-mails.

P.S. Does anyone know thecapacitance of a 2 liter coke bottle filled with
salt water and with aluminum paper wrapped all around.
