Re: Optimal toroid elevation
Marco, and ALL listen up!

There have been plans for the Thor coil out there in public domain now for
at least 10-15 (?) years (you had to buy them from the designer).  I have a
copy in my archives somewhere.  You should merely consult these
plans.  If you cannot get a copy of the Thor document then experimental
process with a developmental Tesla coil is a sure way of learning the
information you seek.  Thor did not employ an intermediary corona control
system on top of the HV resonator if my memory serves me correctly.  Here
again is an area where actual experimentation can result in answers to your
questions.

For a large fee we would be pleased to do the R&D of your coil for you
in our own lab.  You wouldn't have to get your hands dirty at all.

Why doesn't anybody want to build Tesla coils and learn from their own
research?  Too often this list is sucked for 'hand it to me in a completed,
with guarantee design' solution to a simple problem that exists more often than
not because the writer hasn't even bothered to pick up a book about basic
electricity, let alone RF theory and resonant circuits.  If you want an
omlet, buy your own eggs, buy more than you think you'll need, and then head for
the kitchen...yeah or call dial-an-omlet and give them your $$$$$.

Most of you out there are just plain lazy!  Those of you who are not
know who you are and have my greatest respect and admiration.

Hello all.
Can anybody please give me some hints about how much
  should be the distance
between the top of the secondary coil and the middle
  point of the toroid
for the
Thor coil?
The Thor secondary is 70"
tall, winding is 59" long (about 4" left between top
turn and top of the
  secondary form).
The toroid is 59" outer diameter, the aluminium duct
  used is 7.9" diameter.
I thought to rise the toroid about 15" - 20 "
  over the secondary top: any
comments about that?
Should I use also
an anti-corona smaller toroid near to the last top
  secondary
turn?
Regards
