Subject: 500 KV DC

Hi Chip !

I have on hand an old 250 KV 60 Hz X-ray transformer. It was manufactured
with three windings connected in series and it was designed to be run in
dielectric oil. I can remove the iron laminate core if necessary to run it
at higher frequency, but maximum output power is not a critical factor for
what I require, and that is variable DC to 500 KV. Filtering not required.

I'm looking for ideas for best method of doubling to 500 KV while
minimizing complex solid state design. I have a 1 KV Variac, dozens of 20
KV diodes, enough for a full wave bridge if necessary. High power output is
not required.

Safety is top priority. Wire netting for Faraday cage has been purchased.

Suggestions welcomed :-)

Best Regards,
Colin Quinney
