Hi Colin.

I am but the list owner, much like an e-landlord.  I own and maintain the
hardware and network connections.  Ok, I am the one who complains to the
phone company when *their* network connections are spotty. :-)

Steven Roys is the list moderator.  He and all the subscribers on the
list, including you, are the ones who put in the time and effort to make
the list what it is.

Here's what I know about what you are asking.  When you said "DC to
500KV", you probably meant 0-500kV, right?  DC is direct current, and
500kV is 500,000 volts, an entirely different unit of measurement.  Like
gallons to inches.

But anyway, I'd leave the iron core in there, use the transformer as it
was designed, and use a voltage doubling circuit.  It uses diodes and
capacitors to double the voltage and I assume, halve the current.
Others on the list should be able to help you with a schematic. I found

[Xray transformers generally put out DC for the Xray tube, so I imagine
you'd have to slop around and put a doubler in the circuit before the
rectifier and filter. SRR]
