We made ours with MMC (multi-mini-caps), each cap 0.15 uF at 2 kV with 15
pcs in series on each circuit board. We charged at 30 kV (AC peak) per
stage for output of 600 kV over 20 stages. A nice hot output spark in a
compact unit. We used Fujitsu diodes (9 kV at 300 mA).

The vertical assembly is built with Extren fiberglass or polypropylene
(better) square stock (McMaster-Carr).

Be sure to use a HV relay to disconnect power supply before firing and also
a nice long isolation resistor --- several Digi-Key pcs in series for
transient protection if generator pre-fires.
