Lyonel Baum has a site where he's collected a lot of information.
I have a page with a bit of design info:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jimlux/hv/marx.htm
Haefely application notes are useful

The circuit design is trivial (especially if you're not concerned about
precisely controlling waveform rise and fall times and just want to make
HV).

The challenge is in mechanical design (support, insulation, adjustability of
the spark gaps, etc.), and there's very little in the literature (on-line or
elsewhere) about that.

What size Marx do you want to build (Voltage and Stored Energy)?

Jim
