This is not too surprising.  Actually, I doubt that their phases were
identical, but let us assume rather that they were not consistently out
of phase enough to arc to each other.

Unless my reasoning is faulty, their relative phase will depend more on
their resonant frequencies. Since it is unlikely that one coil's
resonant frequency is precisely the same as another, they will be going
in and out of phase fairly often, even their resonant frequencies differ
only by 1 Hz!

Or am I making a faulty assumption?
