Re: Straight from th pole

Hi Jim,

Utilities and their policies and practices vary so much from place to
place it is almost impossible for us to predict what they allow. At this
point, it would be best for you to contact you local power company and ask
them.

Perhaps some private business in your areas gets straight HV. In that
case, maybe you could ask to have a look at their equipment.

In general, utilities are more than happy to supply you with electricity
to fill your needs. However, they will expect that they will be connecting
to some well planned and engineer power system to run your operation. If
the see you out there will a big extension cord with big alligator clips,
they will "have to call their supervisor...".

I doubt you could put together the proper equipment for them to hook up to
for any reasonable price. 14.4kV breakers cost far far more than a big pig
and the typical 220 AC support equipment would. One problem is that you
could drop a large portion of power to your town if it blows up and the
fire department will have to wait till the voltage is turned off (from the
power company) before they will bother to put your fire out. I gets really
messy...

A local electrical design firm would be the real people to contact. If
you pay them lots of money, they WILL get your system for you. I would
guess you are looking at $100,000 of engineering, fees, installation,
equipment, shipping, etc... Be sure not to mention "Tesla coil". Call
your use something else that sounds real official and scientific.
"Resonant voltage multiplication array" or something that will not make
them think your nuts ;-))

You don't have anything to loose by asking around though...

If you really want to "go for it" ask to get 375kV direct to your garage! ;-))

Cheers,

	Terry
