Antti,

I'm glad to hear that you overcame those original problems.

Did you try tapping (tuning) the primary outward more to lower the
primary frequency a little?  If the primary is tuned inward too much,
the sparks will tend to emit early (even using a smooth toroid), and
the spark growth will not be able to *pull* the TC into tune.  

If you're using a bump or point on the toroid, or if the toroid is rough,
then the sparks will tend to emit early anyway (no matter what), but
it can still help some to tap (tune) outward more on the primary.

But here's still another issue:   Did you try re-adjusting the sync gap
phase?  The gap phase that is best for low power, will not be the best
for high power operation.  So you must make the gap phase adjustment
at full power (by trial and error, unless you can alter the phase while
the coil is operating).

Aha, I see here that you are aware you may need better RSG phasing,
so yes, that is important to give longest sparks at full power.
