If you take a conventional Tesla coil, short-circuit the gap, and drive
the primary (with the primary capacitor in parallel) as in an ignition
coil, you have practically the same behavior of a capacitor-discharge
system. The problems are how to put enough current in the primary coil,
and what will happen with the driving circuitry when most of the primary
energy transfers to the primary capacitor in the first cycle.

An ignition coil can be made to work much as a double resonance
system, by adding an adequate capacitor in parallel with the primary.
