RE: Toroid Capacitance calculated without earth-distance?

Ruud -

Even the ground is not enough to determine the true toroid capacitance when
it is placed on the secondary coil of a Tesla coil. The information I have
been able to collect indicates the free space toroid capacitance reduces
about 15 to 20 percent when placed on the typical Tesla coil secondary.
Because of this reduction I show a graph in one of my books that gives the
free space capacitance for different size toroids. This graph is used for
the JHCTES program which also helps in selecting the toroid size.

Hi all,

Maybe i missed something, but could somebody tell me how it is possible that
in
the calculation of the toroid capacitance the distance to ground is ignored.
IMHO it should be actually inverted proportional.
