according to a biography I am now reading, westinghouse was in financial
trouble due to the royalty due Tesla (so many $$ per HP of delivered
electrical power) and went to tesla and asked for help - since tesla wished
his AC motors and AC power to be adopted, he tore up the contracts, thus
effectively giving away several millions of dollars in royalties.  According
to this biography, westinghouse is not at all the bad guy.
