Variac Question

I have a variac that just arrived in the mail, a Powerstat rated 0-140vac at
22amps. Will do nicely tuning a coil. Now for the question:

There are 5 screw connectors which are labeled like this in a schematic on
the input/output panel:

^^^^^^^
< | >
< 3 >
< >
5--< >--2
< >
1--< >--4

This is a circular diagram, with the center brushes being at 3 (diagram has
an arrow indicating rotation at 3.)

Where do I connect the black and the white 115v house wires so that I don't
blow it up? Which leads should be connected to the NST?

Thanks in advance.
