	Only the bucks involved.  Otherwise the best idea and shopping around
for a used sync motor is a good idea.  New ones cost more than induction
motors, and most used ones are relatively small.  Example would be the
sync motors used in TTY machines.  They are fine for relatively small
diameter gaps, but as the disk diameter is increased a diameter will be
reached at which they don't have enough torque to pull into
synchronism.  The rotating disk (even neglecting the studs) pumps lots
of air from its center to the periphery, thereby producing drag.

i know that if this is easier, i'll go this route
