Re: ARSG Motors

Hi Steve, all,

I built an angle grinder RSG like yours, and the
bearings are rather sloppy--no good for low or medium
voltage. The noise, as you pointed out, is appalling.
How about an alternative...

Has anybody tried to use a bench router as an ARSG?
They seem to offer certain advantages: 1) motor speed
is conveniently controlled by a lamp dimmer or a small
variac 2) they already have a collet, so you can chuck
a rotor on as easy as changing a bit 3) precision ball
bearings with very little play would permit very close
gap spacing 4) very high RPM, which would give short
dwell time even with a small diameter rotor 5)
reasonable price thru cheap outlets such as Harbor
Freight or Northern Tool catalogs.

Just speculating out loud thru my keyboard.

Regards,

Greg
