We got our first 3 phase variac yesterday :) a nice big stack of 3 GE 30Amp
units rated for 520VAC max (480 in). All matched and mechanicly paralelled
with a 24VDC motor drive, limit switches, and even a pot on the bottom for
position sensing....hmmmmm this is begging to be computer controlled :)

I'm doing security system today, but will get to the controller this weekend
hopefully (Mark, come and tinker). I have to rebuild the big cabinet where
we let some magic smoke out trying to detonate some 10VDC Lytics......they
can draw a LOT of amps......poo

I'm building the new control panel specificaly for the Promethious Project.
It will house the 3 variacs and a TON of other goodies. It will be fed from
3 phase 480. I'm winding 3 secondaries all 23"x100". I see this being tried
as a 3ph coil.

All the large, in progress coils at Sigma-6 are Twin systems. But I'm making
an extra secondary for each system as a spare (things tend to break only
half an hour before the public arrives). It's very easy to reconfigure for a
3phase setup when you already have a twin.

The control panel is being made from an IBM Mainframe terminal that comes
from a time "When Computers' fit in a single room!" It's taken me a week to
gut it. It's a nice cab, about 10' long and 3'tallx3'deep all 1" square tube
framed and on some beefy casters. And from what I see on Chuck's page, I'm
not the first to use IBM parts fpr a cab. :)

Mainframes are very useful things...I have an AS-400 rack in my office
housing my stereo :)

btw: does anyone know how to program a Simplex #2350 Controller? I'm pulling
my hair out on this one. All I keep getting is a row of some cheractor that
looks like a capital E with the top bar removed.....
