isolation transformer

hi all,
i just started working in a warehouse for bowman trucking. this warehouse
is not used very often and has just been put into operation for inventory
overflow. anyway, being old and full of surprises i wandered around into
many of the unused rooms and dank places that it offers and found a very
accessable room with some electrical equipment not in service. i beleive i
found a large 480 volt 3 phase isolation transformer and perhaps 2 small
ones that i couldnt see inside. i have noticed several in service in the
warehouse and also in used powering computer labs. anyway, are such
transformers usable for ballast service? there was various other equipment
there that i didnt tkae a closer look at or couldnt see. the room was
pretty dark and tip-toeing around electrical equipment in the dark made me
a bit nervous. always the risk that some of it was in service ;)

while im on the subject, i got ahold of a 120 to 12 volt transformer, a
small welder transformer, and a larger welder transformer which just looks
to be a large coil of wire with no iron core. how does one go about
rewinding a transformer? getting it apart?
