Matt -

There are plans for a simple easy to build Tesla coil in my Tesla Coil
Construction Guide. The coil operates from 12 VDC and is very safe compared
to coils operated from 120 VAC utility lines. For a biginner the sparks at
first appear to be about a foot long but you will find they are actually
about 2 inches long. With a 6" clear decorative lamp the sparks are 3" long.

The book has enough technical info and plans to build coils with sparks up
to 8 ft long. You can obtain the book from me or Lindsay Publications (Tel
815-935-5353) or 21st Century Books (Tel 970-453-9293). If you have more
questions please contact me direct.
