Hi John,
The triodes I'm using in my vertical coil are 5868's. These have
graphite anodes with 500W's dissipation. They fit in a 4-1000 socket. And
the nice part was the filaments are 10V-at-10A. This makes it nice for
substituting other toobs. I've tried 304TL's and 833a's both.
I use 304TL's in my horizional toob coil. It uses a uwave PS. Makes a
nice spark(28" long) between the two electrodes. I like the 833a's(no socket
required), but you have to be careful about overheating them. Getting the
anode too hot will make em gassy. I've seen several on ebay with a burn mark
in the middle of the anode. My first coil (made in '59) used a single 304TL.
I loved the way the anodes looked at bright orange! Oh yeah!

Later,

James

P.S. I read D & M's message on here about our Florida Teslathon coming up on
the 25-25 August. I live west of Pensacola and I have a large workshop that
I built to play with Tesla coils inside. So, come and see if you want.
