My name is Finn Hammer, and I made that variac. It was fun, educating
etc. I sort of needed to prove to myself that I could do it.
Now that I know that, let me say that it is not worthwile from the point
of view of just getting a variac.
There are many aspects of variac making that you cannot learn by
yourself, and really need to take a variac apart to learn. Also,
materials may not be so easy to get. Mine is long gone, it started to
smoke during a 1 hour run, and I decided to discontinue it, since I ran
across a car-trunk full of Staco`s at the recycle center one day.
So, unless you are completely unable to gather some cash to buy a used
variac, here are a couple of pictures to point you in the right
direction.
