Re: help NST potting

I depotted several NST's using my oven in our kitchen.
Our oven has (had, we moved) electronic controls, so
5° increases were possible. I startd at the lowest
setting, which (I forget) was lower than 200° F. I set
the NST on top of a $2 - $3 big flat stainless steel
bowl. I slowly increased the heat until the potting
started oozing. I allowed as much potting as possible
to ooze, then took the whole mess to the garage to
pull the potting off with a putty knive. I repeated in
the oven until there was little potting left. At that
point I used gasoline to finish the job. I never got
to the "stink" point before going to the garage.

I believe that if you have a pure "tar" nst, and an
electronic oven, that you can safely depot an nst
WITHOUT stinking up the house. I believe "stink" comes
with temperature of the potting compound.
