	The level shifter is just another form of capacitance-coupled voltage
multiplier, which has been around for a very long time.  There was a
detailed article containing design curves in a late-1930's issue of RCA
review, and you'll find it mentioned in almost any electronics or radio
text since then.  It would informative for anyone contemplating building
one to look up one of these references, from which he could estimate the
performance of his proposed circuit.  Of particular importance is the
effect of capacitance on the full-load output.
