Re: MOTs & Thoughts

It is interesting to note that 2 MOT's in series on a large 240V 30A breaker
will heat considerably, 4 MOT's will get toasty too without oil...but 5 and
6 MOT's...and the transformer start running moderately warm. When I measure
the current draw/ secondary output on my 15 lbs 1400 watt MOT's I find that
I am running 2360 VAC to 2420 VAC out of each. I've tried to burn out my
older MOT's but I have been unable to do so as their core sizes dissipate
much of the heat. It is also interesting to note that one of my transformers
comes with technical data labeled on it (it may have been a test model in
1984)

It says:

op.temp -30 to 60 c * do not exceed 75 c
DC secondary ohm rating 72.23
current draw 4.45A idle, 12.53A loaded, maximum draw 13.87A
output 2450 VAC (+/- 2.5%) 610 mA - 678.85 mA

DANGER HIGH VOLTAGE

manufacture date: Jan 1984
