I've used 845's in a tube coil.  Their limitation is the low plate
voltage and lack of a tube cap.  Still, I've fed them with 4kVAC
and gotten 19" sparks from a single 845 tube.

I have some schematics at my website which will work with
845's.  Some adjustment of grid leak resistance and feedback
may be needed for optimal results.
