There are varying chems for any given color.

         Classically:
                 Sr (Strontium) for red
                 Cu (Copper) for blue
                 Ba (Barium) for green
                 Ca (Calcium) orange

In General, chems go in as 'salts' (nitrates,
perchlorates, chlorides ...). Degree of color
'saturation' and 'tint' are variable. Mixing
chems to get varying shades is tricky with
         incompatibility.

Some chems are hazardous (toxic, unstable),
and some 'attract regulatory attention' as they
can get used for other things...

There are web sites on pyrotechnics which discuss
this in huge, and, sometimes, experienced detail.
         ...and sell reference books.
