I've heard tales of people doing that for several weeks to get them really

Neither did I, but mine stank something fierce. I've heard reports from both 
camps. It seems that some NSTs stink like mad, and some just don't. Though I 
believe that there are only two flavours of creme filling for NSTs. Creosote 
(a black, tar substance) and Epoxy (usually Tan, but can be anywhere from 
white to brown, rock solid, and can't be melted off). It's possible that not 
all creosote is the same, but I've never seen that much variation in it and 
I've been around a LOT of creosote and it's always smelled the same.
